The position

We are currently looking for a Head Chef to join our team based at Wesley College, one of The University of Sydney's prestigious on campus residential colleges. You will take the lead in the overall food offer (breakfast, lunch & dinner) for approximately 260 live in students and operate on a 7 day roster but no late evenings so it's a great work/life balance.

Reporting directly into the Site Manager, you will lead a kitchen team of about 6-8 Chefs and/or Kitchen Hands and motivate & develop them to be the best they can be.

Your clients (the students!) are from across Australia and around the world and this will be your platform to showcase your passion about producing great food and have an understanding of the latest trends and healthy eating principles. 

Key Duties

  • Manage & lead the running of the kitchen, food preparation & cooking
  • Deliver to our client's high expectation of a premium experience
  • Maintain an overall knowledge and passion for nutrition and healthy eating
  • Observation of and implementation of allergy awareness controls.
  • Take responsibility for ordering and stock control for retail areas when required
  • Follow company health, safety and security procedures at all times
  • Lead, manage and motivate a great team!

 The Person

  • Minimum Certificate III in Commercial Cookery
  • Bulk cooking and function skills essential, educational experience an advantage
  • Passionate about delivering a world class culinary service experience
  • Excellent work ethic with great communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a professional manner
  • Experience of managing a busy kitchen environment
