ESS provides multi-service capability to major companies and organisations operating in remote sites, gold mines and coal fields. We provide vital workplace support for people working in some of the most isolated terrains in the world, from oil rigs in the North Sea to gold mines in the Australian Outback.

We’re currently experiencing a significant growth phase in the remote sector, specifically throughout our Central QLD Region We are currently looking for an experienced Relief Unit Manager to take us into our next growth phase.

Working with well-regarded clients, the successful candidate will work a Full-Time 8:6 roster, working 11 hour days. This role will see you work across all of our Anglo sites at Moura, Moranbah and Middlemount in Central Queensland. Flights ex Brisbane, accommodation and meals included. Locals are encouraged to apply on a drive-in, drive-out basis.

The Position

  • Management of Village Operations (catering and cleaning services)
  • Maintaining consistent operational performance, driving quality, cost, people capability and performance
  • Driving regular and sustainable improvement in our safety performance
  • Fostering a high-performance culture through continuous improvement and innovation
  • Staff engagement and development, modelling positive working relationships, demonstrating trust, care and respect
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships
  • Identify and create new business opportunities
  • Manage contracts to provide services
  • Establish, maintain and monitor quality customer service practices
  • Develop, implement and monitor retail sales and marketing strategy
  • Effectively manage the cost of goods and/or food within the workplace
  • Manage finances within a budget
  • Effectively utilise Compass systems to maintain efficient operations
  • Lead and manage an effective team
  • Recruit and induct staff
  • Train and develop employees
  • Develop and update legal/regulatory knowledge required for business compliance
  • Establish and maintain a safe and secure workplace
  • Promote and maintain our safety culture 
  • Establish and maintain an environmentally sustainable workplace

The Person

  • Experience in Village Management or Assistant/Relief Management positions
  • Business or degree qualifications 
  • Contract management experience
  • Chef qualifications are also desirable, as is proven management experience in the hospitality field, ideally within a Catering and or Accommodation services environment.
  • Strong and decisive leadership skills with ability to build effective and engaged teams
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholder relationships and project deadlines with competing priorities
  • Strong financial and analytical skills in developing budgets and allocating appropriate resources to ensure a sustainable and profitable business, preferably within the remote or offshore sector.
  • Ability to identify and implement new innovations within the facilities management, hospitality, or hotel services industry.
  • Experience in Staff recruitment, retention, rostering, and subsequent management of both permanent and casual workforces.
  • Ability to form productive relationships with clients and individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to identify contract retention and new business opportunities
  • Computer literate – ability to use IT systems to maintain efficient operations
  • In depth understanding of occupational health, safety and environment and ability to apply principles.
  • Proven experience in managing successful teams
  • Single site operational experience in a similar role within the industry
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to manage a budget
  • Working knowledge of workplace regulations, including award and agreement requirements
