The Position

During a period of growth, we are seeking a motivated, experienced, and driven National Safety Leader of Projects with proven experience in Safety, Facilities Management, and High-Risk work, to join our national project team. Working as a key member of the project delivery team you will support, mentor, and engage with team members and project stakeholders to provide positive safety outcomes across our Fatal Risk Program.

The role is hands on and requires someone with the ability to quickly build relationships with various stakeholders and work across a highly diverse business to achieve success. Proficiency in building frameworks including supporting tools and materials in the application of high-risk work while ensuring compliance to regulation is essential in the success of the programme of work this role will lead. Experience working in a construction, trade, facilities or heavy industry/manufacturing environment is highly desirable.  

Key Duties 

Reporting to the National Manager of Innovation and Culture, this role works collaboratively with the Operational Leaders across all business units to drive ongoing and sustainable improvement in our safety performance.  Your responsibilities will include:

  • Championing the implementation of our Fatal Risk program; including critical controls and standards development.
  • Leading the design, development and delivery of single , simplified and standardised safety framework.
  • Facilitating the collaboration and change process transitioning the business from multi risk assessment approach to a single standard approach and tools.
  • Coaching senior leaders in their safety behaviours and programs to drive safe operational improvement
  • Assisting in the investigation of incidents to drive a rigorous approach to root cause identification and close out of corrective actions
  • Undertaking verification activities, inspections, and reviews to identify issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Engaging with team members and facilitate risk assessments and activity planning, ensuring that HSEQ is considered at all stages of the project lifecycles.
  • Delivering internal training as needed and or in relation to implementation of new projects and or change in processes.
  • Interacting with clients to demonstrate to them how the company’s operations and programmes effectively manage their risk and add commercial value to their operations and business strategy

The Person

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in HSE, Safety engineering or equivalent
  • Proven experience within trades or construction environment
  • Demonstrated capability in influencing key stakeholders to implement the company’s HSEQ standards and procedures
  • Experience in Change Management
  • Experience in Cultural Change programmes
  • Experience in the investigation of incidents to drive a rigorous approach to root cause identification and close out of corrective actions
  • Skilled in developing guiding procedures, tools and materials to support planning and safe execution of work.
  • Exposure to High Risk work
  • Involvement in changing cultures within a trade or construction environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, web-based software applications and a high level of computer literacy in general
