ESS provides multi-service capability to major companies and organisations operating in remote sites, gold mines and coal fields. We provide vital workplace support for people working in some of the most isolated terrains in the world, from oil rigs in the North Sea to gold mines in the Australian Outback.

Due to continued growth at our Heathgate Beverley Village operation in South Australia, we are seeking an experienced and trade-qualified Head Chef to join our remote site catering team. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume catering environment and is passionate about delivering exceptional food and service standards.

What's on Offer

  • 11-hour shifts
  • Full-time salary package of $110,758 + superannuation
  • Accommodation and meals provided while on site
  • Flights provided from Adelaide or Port Augusta

The Role

As Head Chef, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of kitchen operations, ensuring high-quality food service and maintaining industry-leading safety and hygiene standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading kitchen operations across breakfast, crib and dinner buffet services
  • Managing, mentoring and developing a team of chefs, kitchen hands and dining room staff
  • Overseeing stock control, ordering processes and food safety compliance
  • Ensuring all meals are prepared and presented to a consistently high standard
  • Maintaining compliance with OH&S policies, procedures and safe work practices
  • Implementing effective catering controls and minimizing food wastage
  • Upholding high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, infection control and safety in line with Compass standards
  • Contributing to a positive site culture through outstanding customer service, teamwork and continuous improvement initiatives

About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (minimum requirement)
  • Previous experience as a Head Chef or Sous Chef, preferably within mining, resources or remote village environments
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to build, motivate and develop high-performing teams
  • Experience in large-scale or bulk catering operations
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety standards and HACCP principles
  • Demonstrated experience in menu planning, stock management, budgeting, rostering and workforce development
  • The ability to effectively communicate with clients, stakeholders and team members
  • A professional, positive and proactive approach, with a genuine passion for coaching and developing hospitality professionals

The Benefits:

You will have the support, infrastructure, systems and processes you would expect from a global organisation. As an employer of choice, we recognise high performance and foster individual development. Additionally, our employees enjoy the following benefits:

  • We offer discounts and benefits at hundreds of retail outlets.
  • Recognition programs including service and safety awards, regular team events, site-based benefits, and company discounts.
  • Ongoing training and development, and career growth opportunities
  • Cost of medicals, training and uniforms covered by the company.
  • Full Time employment
  • Meals, accommodation provided for the duration of your 14 days on
  • Flights provided from Adelaide or Port Augusta on a Fly In Fly out basis

If you are a motivated culinary leader looking for your next challenge in a rewarding remote-site environment, we would love to hear from you.

We are committed to providing a recruitment process that is fair, equitable and accessible for all. If you require adjustments or alternative methods of communication in the recruitment process, please reach out to us on either 1300TALENT or careers@compass-group.com.au
