Leo's story
Leo Gstrein is the Restaurant Associates National Executive Chef. Growing up on a farm in Austria, Leo’s parents created an idyllic culinary and hospitality environment to nurture his early interests in the discipline. Leo has a long list of culinary posts in a very special list of world famous restaurants, but he is quick to talk about what he learned and the mistakes he made along the way. “They taught me how to respect the produce or how to get the best out of individuals within the team.” Leo believes in the power of mentoring and that his role will be “to ignite the flames of passion for cooking in all our chefs, whether fresh out of culinary school, or those seasoned veterans”. He is passionate about sharing his journey with his fellow cooks and chefs and sees this as “a personal responsibility to pay the knowledge forward”.
