Finance Operations Analyst

The position
This role supports the National Manager – Finance Operations in delivering a best-practice finance operations function across Compass Group Australia. The role encompasses select financial accounting responsibilities with a growing focus on strategic and operational process excellence, financial control and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
Finance operations & process excellence
- Review and assess recurring finance processes and workflows to identify inefficiencies and propose solutions to address.
- Design, document and maintain standard operating procedures for key finance processes.
- Support the implementation of new systems, processes and automation.
- Contribute to a scalable Finance Operations function and future centre of excellence capability.
Financial controls, governance and risk
- Apply and promote Compass accounting policies, financial controls and governance requirements
- Assess key finance processes for control weaknesses, operational risks and improvement opportunities
- Support audit, compliance and assurance activities through clear documentation and evidence
Reporting, insights and collaboration
- Partner with Finance, AP, AR, Treasury, Commercial Finance and business stakeholders to streamline workflows and enhance service delivery
- Prepare reporting and insights as required to support finance leadership decision-making and service performance monitoring
- Contribute positively to team culture through collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
Accounting & month end
- Prepare month-end journals, accruals, central allocations and supporting schedules for key balance sheet accounts
- Reconciliation of key balance sheet accounts, including investigation and timely resolution of reconciling items
- Support fixed asset and intercompany accounting activities
- Maintain clear, consistent and supportable recharge models for centrally managed costs
- Work with stakeholders to address recharge queries and improve transparency of recurring charges
People & Culture
- Develop good relationships with fellow team members to foster a culture of financial and operational excellence with a can-do, proactive approach
- Develop and maintain productive working relationships with key stakeholders – build relationships whilst analyzing and challenging
- Support the business in ensuring that the needs of the stakeholders are met
- Operate in accordance with Compass values and actively support and participate in Compass culture
About you
- CA or CPA qualified
- 3-5 years' experience in finance operations, financial accounting or a related finance role, ideally within a complex or large corporate environment
- Strong practical understanding of month-end close activities, including journals, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany accounting and fixed assets
- Demonstrated experience in applying financial controls, accounting policies and governance requirements in a finance environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to develop clear and actionable recommendations
- Demonstrated ability to review finance processes, identify inefficiencies or control gaps and support/implement process improvement to workflows, documentation, reporting or automation
- Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders across Finance, AP, AR, Treasury, Commercial Finance and business operations
- Proactive, hardworking attitude and a high level of accountability
- Strong teamwork and an emphasis on striving for continuous improvements
- Experience with Oracle (desirable)
- Exposure to contract based, services or retail businesses (desirable)
