ESS, part of Compass Group, provides integrated hospitality and support services to the Australian Defence Force across Australia. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Fitness Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our on-base gymnasium facilities.

In this hands-on supervisory role, you’ll ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient running of all fitness and recreation spaces — supporting the health and wellbeing of Defence personnel through high-quality facilities and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the gym 
• Supervise facility users and maintain emergency response readiness 
• Lead inspections, enforce site-specific safety instructions, and maintain compliance documentation
• Manage staff rosters, monitor absenteeism, and support performance and training
• Support Sport & Recreation compliance standards across all fitness and aquatic areas
• Ensure facilities and equipment are clean, well-maintained, and safe for use
• Contribute to a proactive culture of safety, wellbeing, and teamwork

About You

• 2+ years’ experience in a similar supervisory or fitness facility management role
• Cert III or IV in Fitness (highly desirable)
• First Aid and CPR Qualification (essential)
• Proven ability to manage staff rosters and performance
• Excellent communication skills and a respectful, inclusive approach when working with diverse communities
• Current Australian Driver’s Licence and reliable transport (multi-site travel may be required)
• Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and operational excellence
• Australian Citizenship is mandatory (Defence security clearance required)
• Ability to obtain and maintain a National Police Check and Defence clearance
