Working as a sous chef at Melbourne Zoo's production kitchen is an exciting adventure, blending culinary creativity with wildlife magic. Surrounded by stunning animals, you craft high-quality meals, explore innovative menus, and contribute to a passionate team dedicated to conservation—all in a unique, lively environment.

The Position

  • Lead and manage the production kitchen to ensure smooth operations across all shifts.
  • Oversee the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food according to recipes, quality standards, and food safety regulations.
  • Ensure all food products meet quality specifications and are produced within budgeted food costs.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and safety within the kitchen environment.
  • Provide effective team leadership and manage kitchen staff to ensure consistent performance.
  • Monitor and improve kitchen processes to enhance efficiency and product quality.

 The Person

  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery
  • Prior experience in a similar culinary environment
  • Ability to work under pressure with professionalism and positivity
  • Team player who can also work independently
  • Flexible, reliable, and physically fit
  • Strong communication skills and hardworking attitude
